Injured

I think I mentioned it a while ago but I am injured. I have had achilles issues since I started back to running. They got progressively worse and I ignored them. Finally one day I was sitting at work and my whole ankle was in pain. I decided to do something about it and went to see my doctor who confirmed my diagnosis. I am probably not going back to my doctor since he kept me waiting 45 minutes looked at my ankle for 5 seconds and mimicked what I said, prescribed a medication that completely wacked me out and signed me up for PT. The PT was the only thing he got right. I have been going once a week and I feel better because of it.
About three weeks ago I went out for my first trail run with my daughter. We did a small 2-3 mile loop and by the end of it my ankle was on fire but for the most part I was fine. I have been doing short runs since then and my ankle has been fine. It hurts but not nearly as bad as it did before. I think I have a fallen arch because I was also having forefoot pain and I am fat. I bought some arch supports and my running didn't hurt and was able to get out for about a little over three mile run this weekend. It's going to be a slow recovery but recovery is coming.
This completely changes my running perspective for the better. I am just going to run for the fun of it. and the whole training thing is out of sight and out of mind.

Went to my first PT appt on friday. I always feel a bit odd when I go to a new appointment and this was no exception. After an inital evaluation where she looked at my feet and my gait and my posture and did some prodding of my feet I began stretching and doing some self massage. It really isn't much more than that at this point but after a weekend of doing it I noticed that my ankle is not as painful to the touch. I am off running while this works its way out. I have my next pt appt on thursday.

Did my weigh in last night and I have lost 2 pounds. I am very happy with that considering I have had some pretty erratic eating going on especially at night. I have documented all of my meals and I have been very good at that, it is just meals as such have been pretty non existent. The kids are playing baseball and trying to get everyone together at one time is really tough.

I ran a very little bit last night on my way home from the train. My daughter had a playoff game and I needed to get home for it. I ran walked the whole way. The heel and ankle were stiff but I wasn't in pain. Yea. PT starts tomorrow. Stopped taking the anti inflamatories three days ago after getting really light headed. I have felt better since.

Miserable eating day yesterday. Morning started off on the wrong foot when I went for the left over ravioli. Bad move on my part and then I never got back in the game. Well one day bad isn't a killer. I bought a scale. I never bought a scale before and now I am fascinated. I weigh myself all the time although I am only going to make it offical once a week. I started off at 240. Tomorrow is weigh in. I am going to try and do it at the same time each week and in the same outfit. I think it was just gym shorts which at 240 looks like it is being eaten by my body.

I went to weight watchers and lost a lot of weight about 3 years ago. I have all of the books still and decided to give it another try but this time just on my own journaling my food and being honest. I am also trying to pay attention to trigger foods. I think diet soft drinks are trigger foods for me, so I am trying to stay away from them. In the Office we have a bunch of candy and a bunch of fat people. Coincidence? I think not. I have be making a move where I travel a different way around the office to stay away from the candy and it has been working for me. Its all about the choices.

Still taking it easy on the ankle. Trying to get better. I have also been watching my weight pretty closely and have managed to drop a little. On Saturday the Wissahickon Trail Classic was run. It is a great 10k race run through the hills of my home course. As I was unable to run I volunteered. I helped set up and then worked a water stop which was really mellow as the weather was perfect and not a million degrees. The runners all did really well on a very tough course. Just a quick mention Helen (twitter name @positivesplits and blog www.positivesplits.blogspot.com) who runs for the wanderers and who has had a great deal of trouble this year with her running was the first female finisher. Way to go Helen.

Went to the Dr. yesterday. First for what I thought was going to be a biopsy in my mouth and turned out that the growth was no longer there. Yipee. Then in the PM I went to my GP and he told me what I knew, tendinitis in my ankle. He prescribed flurbenprohen and PT. I tried to run on it a little yesterday actually right after leaving the doctor i had to run to catch the trian. I made it two blocks and then the ankle started to hurt and I couldn't run any more. My blood pressure was up and my weight is 238-240 so I have pretty much put all of the weight I lost back on. And no wonder I have been having leg problems. Im Fat. So today I began a weight reduction program. So far for breakfast I had 1 cup juice, 1 cup cereal and 1/2 cup milk. I am going to have some coffee in a moment. I got a journal and I am writing it down. So now this is turning from a running blog to a weight loss blog. Well that is how I got into running in the first place.

This weekend is the Wissahickon Trail Classic. If you are in the area come on out. I have to ride my bike over to help. It should be a blast.
